Bouldering in Corner Rock
Tucked away in the Big Ivy section of Pisgah National Forest, Corner Rock is a standout bouldering destination just 35 minutes north of Asheville, North Carolina. What makes it truly unique is the concentration of steep, powerful problems on a single, massive boulder—arguably one of the most stacked blocks in the state. The rock's texture allows for confident movement without relying heavily on friction, making it ideal for steep climbing year-round. Still, the best seasons to visit are fall (September to November) and spring (April to early June), when temperatures are cooler and conditions are optimal.
Access is straightforward during most of the year via a short 200-yard hike from Dillingham Road, but note that from January 1st to mid-April, a closed gate extends the approach to 1.7 miles. While camping isn’t allowed at the site, the beautiful forest setting and proximity to Asheville make it a convenient day trip. With over 25 established problems and several regional guidebooks covering the area, Corner Rock has earned its place as a must-visit Southeastern U.S. bouldering hub.
