The best times to climb in Smuggler's Notch are spring and fall when the temperatures are mild. Summers are cooler than other spots, but it can get crowded. Winter is possible, if you're willing to hike in with snowshoes and brave the cold; however, the schist is surprisingly dry even in winter. Remember to respect the seasonal closures, especially for raptor nesting, and always practice leave-no-trace ethics.
