45 Bouldering Areas in Catalunya, Spain

Bouldering in Catalunya

Catalonia boasts one of the highest concentrations of bouldering areas in Europe, with an extraordinary variety of rock types including conglomerate, sandstone, granite, and limestone all within a few hours of Barcelona. The conglomerate rock is a particular standout -- a cemented mix of pebbles and cobbles that creates wildly 3D problems demanding creative movement and strong compression. The Mediterranean climate makes autumn through spring the prime season, though shaded forest sectors can work in summer. Few regions anywhere offer this much geological diversity in such a compact area, making it possible to session on four different rock types in a single week.
