Illinois bouldering exists on a modest scale, with sandstone bluffs and boulders concentrated in the southern part of the state. Despite the flat terrain the state is famous for, the Shawnee region offers surprisingly good sandstone with steep problems and interesting textures. Best season is fall through spring, avoiding the humid summer months.
