Washington bouldering spans an incredible range of environments, from rainforest-shrouded granite in the Cascades to basalt columns and desert sandstone east of the mountains. The west side is best from late spring through early fall when rain relents, while the drier east side extends the season. Expect powerful granite compression, sharp basalt crimps, and creative problems on volcanic rock. The diversity of stone and settings rivals much larger states.
